Our story

From a meeting of fifteen researchers to a registered association

On 29 January 2025, fifteen people met at the home of Mr Rodolphe Prosper Maah to adopt the statutes and internal rules of an association intended to bring together researchers — students and lecturers alike — specialising in psycholinguistics, language acquisition, neurolinguistics, clinical linguistics and cognitive linguistics.

The observation that brought them together is simple and severe: speech therapy is virtually non-existent in Cameroon, and to date there is no standardised assessment test in any Cameroonian language. Most assessments are conducted with tools designed in French or English, which capture neither the linguistic nor the cultural specificities of patients.

On 17 July 2026, the Prefect of the Wouri Division issued declaration receipt N° 1004/2026/RDA/C19/SASC, granting CAPSYC legal personality.

Governance

Three statutory bodies

Articles 8 to 15 of the statutes.

The General Assembly

Sovereign, it gathers all CAPSYC members. It meets twice a year in ordinary session, in early March and early November: adoption of the past semester's activity report, monitoring of the directorates, adoption of the coming semester's programme and budget, and elections to the executive board where applicable.

The Executive Board

Nine members elected by list ballot for a renewable two-year term, accountable to the General Assembly. It handles general administration, coordinates activities through monthly sessions, oversees regional branches and forwards reports to partners.

Founders and Directorates

The third statutory body of CAPSYC. Monthly monitoring sessions are held independently at central level and at branch level, assessing delivery of the activity programme adopted at the start of the year.

To this day there is no standardised assessment test in any Cameroonian language. That is the work we are undertaking.
